Whitby Lifeboat Called To Fishing Vessel With Engine Failure

Whitby Lifeboat Called To Fishing Vessel With Engine Failure

Whitby RNLI's all weather lifeboat rescued four people aboard a fishing boat this afternoon (Monday 11 December).

The lifeboat left the harbour at 1.40pm and quickly reached the fishing boat which had suffered engine failure.

The volunteer crew passed a tow line then towed the vessel and her four crew back to Whitby harbour, arriving just after 3.30pm.

Station mechanic Richard Dowson said: 'Despite being a bitterly cold day the conditions at sea were good and we were able to reach the vessel quickly after the alarm was raised. Well done to the crew aboard who contacted the coastguard for help, so we could reach them quickly and safely.'

If you find yourself in difficult in or near the water contact the Coastguard by calling 999.
